When teaching, I believe in the "wow factor" so the student can really see how much fun learning can be. When they are amazed with the world of knowledge, it makes their learning and my teaching so much fun! I am here to help students set and achieve their highest goals.
As a lifelong student and advocate of learning, I achieved a GPA of 3.75 upon returning to university classes as an older adult. I have many years of working in business, coaching and mentoring in several fields, which include accounting and business practices, such as customer service. I also implemented and taught the Train the Trainer Program within the Lynchburg, VA Region 2000 community. I created a Remedial Training Program to raise skill levels among associates and taught Telephone Etiquette and motivational training. I also revised the Order Entry Manual to be used for all new hires.
I have been told I have a three dimensional style of training. I teach in a way that every style of student can (eventually) get it. I have taught both children and adults in the various positions I have held through my life (camps, schools, employers and church). I have a great deal of experience training fellow employees and have devised the system of show them once, let them do it once while talking them through it, and then let them do it once without assistance. This system also translates to teaching. The last step is the most important; it forces the student to think for him or herself and instills confidence that the problem is not beyond his or her level of understanding. It is very important to teach students how to figure things out for themselves – probably the most important lesson I learned at UVa. If a child knows how to utilize resources such as the textbook, example problems, and the internet, then he or she will be able to work independently through a tough problem.
