A Little Bit About Me...

I hold two degrees in Sports Medicine, and was one of the few students in the country in any discipline to have cadaver anatomy courses at the undergraduate AND graduate levels. I absolutely love studying and teaching anatomy, especially musculoskeletal anatomy. I have supervised undergraduate and high school students for 8 years, and taught sports medicine, pathology, and anatomy at the high school and technical school level. I am currently teaching an exercise science class at our local community college, and working full-time as an exercise specialist and personal trainer.
I am very aware that all students learn in different ways and at different speeds, and am willing and able to accommodate all learning styles. I have a great deal of experience training fellow employees and have devised the system of show them once, let them do it once while talking them through it, and then let them do it once without assistance. This system also translates to teaching. The last step is the most important; it forces the student to think for him or herself and instills confidence that the problem is not beyond his or her level of understanding. It is very important to teach students how to figure things out for themselves – probably the most important lesson I learned at UVa. If a child knows how to utilize resources such as the textbook, example problems, and the internet, then he or she will be able to work independently through a tough problem.
