A Little Bit About Me...

I recently graduated from the Evergreen State College with a degree in mathematics. My other fields of study included chemistry, computer science, and physics. I have numerous hours of laboratory experience to support my in class and text book understanding of the materials covered. I've been a tutor at TESC for 3 years now working with students from all walks of life and working on any scientific material I've had any experience with.
I believe that whenever I'm working with a student they have the capacity to learn and internalize the material. I believe that the student can learn the material. My method of mathematical and scientific instruction is based off the Polya style of teaching where the instructor guides their students by questions and reviewing the known information. A Little Bit About Me...

As a Social Worker I came in contact with young adults who have dropped out of school because of becoming young parents, drug use, and or a lack of support from parents. My initial contact was to address child abuse and or neglect but I quickly recognized the bigger picture included their inability to process information because of a lack of education. I started a parenting class to give them a safe place to start looking at these issues.
I teach so I can empower the individule to create a goal that can be attained. I have a stregth based approach, which gives the one I am teaching a positive outlook at what they can achieve. I have been a professional instructor pilot for 20 years teaching pilots from over 30 different countries in English and Spanish. I have a BS in Zoology, an MA in Information Management, and am working on an MS in Aeronautical Science. I have ten years grammar school, high school (AP), and college level Spanish and lived two years in Colombia South America as a Christian missionary.
