More About This Tutor...

I am a passionate teacher and tutor. I believe that there is not a minute to waste when working with youth, and I like to conduct vigorous tutorials and well-paced classes. I believe that everyone has a different learning style, and this is why tutoring is such an integral supplement to classroom teaching. I enjoy getting to know my students and creating lesson plans for tutorials based on their personal learning styles. I believe that a student has to be engaged and challenged in order to learn and I absolutely provide that in my tutorials.
I earned two bachelor degrees from the University of North Carolina in December of 2007. From there, I chose to move to Massachusetts to participate in a ground breaking fellowship at MATCH Charter Public High School. I chose this alternate route to receiving teaching certification because of the classroom experience it provided me. In addition ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I love working with children. I've taught acting at the Durham Arts Council for three years. The duties from that position included directing students in performances which I helped them create. The plays were written around themes chosen by the camp director. So, in essence, the children and I would research those themes and develop stories which I would then turn into plays using my expertise. Those plays would be performed every two weeks for the entire summer. I was responsible for preparing three classes for this project simultaneously.
From my experiences teaching acting in Durham NC I know education can I know that learning can be fun. I hold a Bachelor's from UNC Greensboro where I majored in Psychology and theater arts, but also took many literature credits to fulfill a special educational program in which I was placed. this program was for gifted students. A Little Bit About Me...

Each individual learns in a different manner. Some students are visual learners, while others are better served by a hands-on environment. Using varied instructional strategies is a technique I have practiced when working with students who are struggling with a particular concept or subject matter. The key to learning is to be engaged in and excited about the learning process. If a student is struggling with a particular subject, establishing a connection to that subject is essential. By learning about the student and his or her interests, the educator has a better opportunity to engage and excite that student. This engagement and excitement will only lead to academic success.
Over the past six months I have been substitute teaching while pursuing my master's degree in elementary education. I am an avid reader and have experience, though not professional experience, in teach ... read more

I have been a teacher in the Hoke County school district for 3 years now. I taught 5th grade for one year, then moved to second grade for the past two years. I have taught all subjects and have worked with students of various levels and abilities from Kindergarten through High school. I have had training in all areas of education through my undergraduate and graduate degrees, and have seen great success with the students in my classes.
I have found that the best way to teach students is to have them do, not listen. Most students at any level are very unmotivated to learn if someone is lecturing at them or working at a pace that is above what they are able to accomplish. I tailor my lessons to the students needs and provide ample opportunities for practice, revision, and remediation when necessary. I want each student to feel a sense of accomplishment every day and I strive to ... read more

For the past two years, I was the high school English teacher in a small, rural Alaskan village located on the Yukon River. This teaching position was very challenging--I had to teach several subjects, such as English, social studies, geography, art, keyboarding, drama, journalism, and digital photography. Since the high school was so small, (30 students), much of my teaching was one-on-one instruction. I have strong English skills, as well as a minor in history and a diverse liberal arts undergraduate education. Currently I am working on my Masters of Education degree, through a distance education program.
I feel very passionate about education and learning. I think the key to teaching is to engage students, and make content interesting and relevant to their lives. I truly believe that the ideal teaching situation is via one-on-one instruction, because I feel students unders ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I loved teaching since my first teaching experience in 1974 that iinvolved working as a long-term substitute at the Omega School in Madison, Wisconsin. The Omega School, an alternative hiigh school that occupied a few rooms in an an old office buiilding, helped high risk students who couldn't fit into a regular high school environment obtain their GED. Some students were gifted but unable to adjust to the regimens of regular high school. Others stole cars or acted out in other ways. My next teachiing experience was in 1975 as a teaching assistant at the University of California, Irvine. T.A.'s taught their own classes and were responsible for lectures, grading, assignments. I taught composition and literature. I loved it and felt at home. My supervisor, now a professor at Duke, told me I was a "natural teacher." I've been teaching ever since. I've taught journalism, science writing, huma ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

While working at Excel Personal Development, I had the opportunity to mentor students ranging from elementary school to Middle School. Over the five years with the organization I have worked with at risk students that were diagnosed with mental diagnosis. While working with these students I was able to assist them in developing life skills, English, and mathematics. Finally, I have earned a degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Management, which has assisted me with interpersonal skills and the ability to problem solve effectively in order to meet the needs of students that I have worked with and to meet the needs of the company.
While working with at risk students, I was faced with challenges that ranged from behavioral, health, educational, as well as family dynamics. With that experience I have learned to be fluid with your teaching approaches with the st ... read more
