A Little Bit About Me...

Hello! My name is Payton and I am currently a student at Illinois State University. I am studying to get my bachelors in Special Education - Learning and Behavior Specialist. I am currently a junior and will be graduating in Spring of 2024. Once I graduate, I will be certified to teach k-12 grade Special Education. I currently have my Associate in Arts from College of DuPage as well. I have worked with children of all ages throughout my high school and college career. When studying at College of DuPage, I had many opportunities to observe and student teach within Middle School Special Education classrooms, specifically English. I loved it! When I'm home for the summer I am a head teacher at a daycare facility for an Elementary Summer STEAM camp. I am in charge of planning lessons and activities for my students. I am very comfortable working with students of all ages and those with disabi ... read more

My comments on tutoring ADD/ADHD : I am a special education teacher and have worked with many students with ADD/ADHD.

From my experience, I have realized that students learn faster and retain the information they learned longer if a tactile, hands-on approach is used. Currently, I teach K-5 students, and no matter what I'm teaching, I try to turn it into an educational game where the students are up and moving and having fun while learning. Each one exceeded my expectations and learned far more than anyone could have imagined. I truly believe in finding the style of learning that suits each student, and pursuing that particular route. And I have found that you can include each learning style by using a tactile approach. It is extremely simple to add in visual and auditory components within hands-on activities. I love finding new ideas and fun ways to teach each subject!
My classroom experience with Special Education started while in college at Illinois State University, where I gained very v ... read more

I am responsible for leading daily team meetings concerning student data. Together we use monthly online diagnostic testing to ensure student success on state mandated tests. I am a student that has a drive of excellence. I graduated from Northern Ill. Univ in 2010, as cum laude. I hold a B.S. in BioChemistry. I have experience as a tutor, which I obtained while as a student at NIU. I would tutor other students with in the chemistry, math, and biology departments.
I love teaching. I us a guiding method of teaching. Because I believe that students learn the most when they do the work themselves, but sometimes they need someone there to motivate them or to guide them in the right direction. I feel this works in group studies also, but, the difference being is that all the student will be involved in a group discussion.

As a seminary student, I gained a deeper respect for the education process and a greater passion for teaching students. During my time at what is now Lincoln Christian University, I gained a respect for the written word as well as a significant knowledge and usage of the English language. For the MA degree that I completed, I gained a working knowledge of grammar and research skills due to writing research papers and a final extensive thesis. Not only have I gained experience through study, but I have taught and, at times, tutored junior and senior high students in a classroom setting.
The process of learning has always facinated me. I believe that all individuals regardless of age are able to learn something new everyday. I also understand that each individual learns in a different manner from the next. My teaching style is structured so that I try to help each student learn ... read more
