My comments on tutoring Elementary Social Studies : This isn't my comfort zone, but if they have the materials, I can certainly help!

I have a love for learning and helping others learn. I am currently in college to become an Elementary School teacher and I have really emphasized on math. I took honors math classes all through high school and I have enjoyed being able to study math and help others understand as well. I also have a love for piano. I am well studied in the classics and am willing to teach modern techniques as well.
I don't know if you could say that I have a "style" but I am all about seeing what they know first and giving them hints here and there so that they come to the understanding on their own and if it is needed I can show them how to do it and help them replicate it.

As an undergraduate student at Utah State University, I spent two years working as a Undergraduate Teaching Fellow, a Teacher's Assistant, and a Supplemental Instructor. I taught labs and assisted students with understanding information in the subject areas of Microbiology, Human Anatomy, and Human Physiology. I am a retired FBI Agent, with both a Bachelor of Science and a Juris Doctorate. As an Agent, I learned to speak fluent Russian and speak it to this day. Since retirement six years ago I have been tutoring and coaching my son, who is handicapped. He is highly intelligent but learns a little bit differently, so I have worked hard with him to teach him to read, learn math and grammar. He cannot write, so everything he learns is by memory. I worked with Special Ed kids with reading, writing, and math. I tutored my Sophomore, Junior, and Senior years of high school. I have most of my certifications in the medical field, but i also graduated High school a semester early and with enough credits to be a sophomore in college. I do prefer to work with elementary school kids, but would also work with middle school as well. I have been raised to know education is the most important thing in ones life. If i can help someone be more successful in school and give them the help they need to succeed that would be the ideal job.

I believe that children are born smart. Some of them have special learning challenges and some have been taught to believe that they are not smart. By treating children as though they are intelligent and providing encouragement and learning opportunities, I have seen children grow and progress in almost astonishing ways. The sparkle in a child's eyes when they finally "get it" is the best paycheck.
After finishing my Masters Degree in Education I taught one year in a private school then opened my own business tutoring primarily homeschool students during the school year. The students I have worked with are primarily ages 11-18, but my experience with my own children includes the primary grades.
