A Little Bit About Me...

I have been writing for 30 years; I have been published over 200 times, in approximately 106 periodicals. In 2008, samples of my earliest writings, as well as recent-front page articles, from the Newark Post, became part of the Special Collection [Delaware Authors] at the University of Delaware Morris Library. As an instructor, and as a tutor, I have taught prewriting techniques, reading comprehension, pronunciation, grammar, general writing and TOEFL Preparation. I have a B.A. in English from the University of Massachusetts, in Dorchester, MA, a commercial arts certificate, technical writing training and a TESOL/TEFL Certificate. I am a decent artist. I know computers, and am quite skilled at surfing the Internet.

I like to incorporate a sense of humor in my teaching - I believe when children can relax they are much more open to learning. I am also sensitive to children's different learning styles whether they are visual, auditory or kinesthetic, and tailor my approach accordingly. No two sessions are ever the same! Each student has unique needs and challenges and my job is to work "through the maze" and carry the message to the brain. I try to use practical and relevant examples whenever I can and appeal to the student's personal frame of reference so the goal of really "learning" versus "memorizing" can be met.
