A Little Bit About Me...

I have a love for children and for learning. I believe in being patient and encouraging children to learn. I have learned in my dealings with children that they respond better when they feel that I have a genuine interest in them. I have worked with children with Autism. They are a special challenge, but have helped me to develop more patience and understanding. As a mother I have an appreciation of gentle firmness and consistency and have a desire to help children succeed. I believe in helping children find methods of problem solving that work for them.
I recently earned my bachelor's degree in Chemistry. I was in advanced math classes and have studied up through Calculus, testing out of an Algebra II class. I believe in the Socratic Method. Through this tutoring method, the student is asked questions to help them develop understanding on their own. Through this discovery style, the students actually learn in ways that will be remembered most. I believe that any child, teenager, or adult can learn most effectively through their own discovery, with my help and guidance. I believe in having "ah-ha!" moments, and the feeling of relief and excitement when connections are made, and learning happens. That's what I want for my students.
My degree consists of two areas of emphases: English and the Humanities, with a minor in Dance. Through the course of my study, I have learned how to be a better writer, understand and appreciate literature, religions, and cultures of the world.
