Let's start out by saying I am definitely not your average tutor! Fun is vital to motivation, and I live on the stuff! I have been teaching for over fifteen years in a variety of environments, working in inclusive environments with children aged birth to twelve. I am now in my second year as a Special Education Teacher at a private school in DC that specializes in working with children who have Learning and Emotional Disabilities. I hold my M.Ed.HD in Special Education from GWU and a Bachelor's in Early Childhood Education. I believe all children can learn. A good teacher tries to find each child's individual learning style and accomodate lessons to match it. I also think learning should be fun, so I use a lot of games and other incentives. I am patient, have a good sense of humor, and have age and the experience of being the mother of two twenty-somethings on my side.
I taught in the Wright City RII School District for 26 years, at both high school and middle school level. During that time I taught everything from English and American literature to basic grammar and writing skills. I also taught some reading classes.
