My comments on tutoring Study Skills : I will focus on helping a student become organized, manage their time, and take notes effectively in class. Another important study skill is how to understand the contents of a textbook. I work with students to identify the important material in textbooks so they are not just reading the chapters, but they are also comprehending the information. We also practice test taking to reduce anxiety.

My career as a teacher has taught me the importance of extending learning beyond the classroom. My work with families has made me sensitive to the needs of all students from a variety of different cultures and backgrounds. I have excellent teaching and verbal communication skills. As an undergraduate at Slippery Rock University, I was approached by my adviser and chair-person in Physics to tutor their physics classes. Not every method works for every child; with one exception, patience. I demonstrate and exemplify patience. If a child feels as though they are in an atmosphere where they are safe, free of ridicule and bias, then they are willing to perform. This process can be a give take scenario however. So, some flexibility is required as well, but eventually the student will become more comfortable with themselves and confident in what they are capable of.
