I love and respect all children and try to meet them where they are. I am very perceptive at times and don't give up easy. If one thing doesn't work, I'd try another. Along with 7 other students, I was directly hired out of college to teach 7th grade English. Along with my 4 years of Latin experience, it increased my abilities in the grammatical aspect of the English language. I also tutored college students while I was attending in first yr Latin and math. I took 4 yrs of French in high school, graduated Shenendehowa in 1974. Because I enjoy and see the wonder in science and I like to show that to students. If they see a reason to want the knowledge, and see how it can expand their horizons, then they will be more open to learning. A common problem with individuals needing tutoring is that they sometimes do not think they have the "smarts" to learn the subject. My first objective is to show them they have the "stuff" to get it! Then I show them how it can be fun. This needs to be balanced with the practical need to get passing grades and complete the course work. My style is marked with a belief in the student and I encourage them and acknowledge their progress. I received a technology degree in 1975.
