As an Associate Research Professor at Duke University I conducted research on the health of the elderly population and the genetic background to age-related diseases. I am well published, always serving as my own statistician. The background to most common disorders in adults is complex involving multiple genes, thus I used advanced fuzzy latent class analysis to identify high and low risk sets of gene variants and to define the level of risk for individuals. I have collaborated with graduate students and taught genetcs to medical students. As a co-founder and the scientific director of Matrix Genomics, Inc. I relate genetic concepts to others on a daily basis.

I have taught and been certified in four states. Grades 7-9 is the level I prefer, though I have taught at the Junior College level also. History is my major, and having spent much of my youth on the European continent with my father's duty assignments, it is easy to teach the events that have led to the present situations. English and education were my minors, and they have become essential living in an area where more Spanish is spoken than our native tongue. I have classroom experience at the elementary and secondary level. While working on my AA degree I worked at a high school in a Language Arts class. Earlier in my education process I worked in a 2nd grade and a 3rd/4th grade class. I worked as a sub at the middle and high school level.
