A Little Bit About Me...

I have tutored students in reading programs from first grade to the High School Equivalency program. I also have a B.S. in broadcast journalism and currently am a literacy teacher in the fifth grade at LaFollette Elementary School in Campbell County. I currently tutor a fifth grade student and a first grade student after school but have plenty of time to add to my schedule.
I have training in the Balanced Literacy program in which the word study, reading objectives, and writers' workshop are combined in a one and a half hour block of student driven, teacher facilitated activities. These are ultimately shared in a whole group and or one on one setting. As a 2010 graduate of Eastern Kentucky University, I was very much driven to achieve a high level of excellence in education. I was President of our local Kentucky Education Association and Chair of our Student Government Association. I have earned two bachelor degrees, a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies and a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, which has enabled me to have a wide variety of experiences. A Little Bit About Me...

I have 30 years experience in Elementary Education. I have taught grades 2-8 in a self-contained and block scheduled school. I served as Asst. Principal for 2 years and then moved to a district coordinator's job emphasizing curriculum. I have designed standardized tests for my district using Tennessee's new curriculum standards. I tutored students after school hours for many years with an emphasis on Language Arts and Elementary Math.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love working with Children. I believe each child learns differently, and that a teacher/tutor needs the patience to find the unique learning style of each student. I believe in disicpline and responsibilities, but I believe that a child needs to feel comfortable in a learning setting.
I am a fluent spanish speaker, I spent the first 13 years of my life in Mexico. I am a U.S citizen since birth, and I have taught 1 year of spanish to ages 2-14 at Natures way Montessori School in Knoxville, TN.
