Spanish is one of my top subjects! I began studying Spanish in middle school and have never stopped. Spanish was my second major in university. My love for the language has brought me to live in Costa Rica, where I have been living since 2012. I am currently pursuing my Masters in translation at Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica, a requirement for which is fluency in both English and Spanish. Being a nonnative speaker, I can offer you my insight into how I learned and mastered the Spanish language, especially the tricky grammar.

Fall 2011 - ESOL Tutor - I met weekly with an ESL peer in my university to teach her English communication skills, specifically in the area of articulation and language. July-November 2012 - English Tutor - Through Universidad Nacional's Exchange program, I met weekly with university-aged peers to strengthen their English conversational skills and grammatical concepts. I like to use the hands on approach. I find out what the weaknesses are of my students and address the topics by giving a general review. I present a problem for them to work out. After a few minutes, I ask them what they think is the best way to approach the problem. If they cannot come up with one, I then guide them through the appropriate thinking pattern in order for them to solve the problem. For me repetition of different related problems is the key to success.

I started around 2005 tutoring for the departments of chemistry and math in Queensborough Community College, from the basic levels in organic chemistry 2 and calculus. I earned my Associate degree in science from Queensborough Community College and finished my Bachelor Degree in Stonybrook University. At Stonybrook University also tutor chemistry and math. During the summer 2006, I had the entire department of chemistry tutoring under my guide. My experience comes from teaching my own classes and from interacting with my students.
My style is open to discussion. I like to ask questions to the student about the knowledge they have and based on that, apply my knowledge to build a strong base to be used as a core to solve more problems.
