I believe that every child is able to learn and that all have the right to achieve their maximum potential. I am structured in my approach but strive to listen to the child's opinions. In the past, my classroom rules were based upon Jim Fay's Love and Logic; essentially, I will treat you with respect, and feel free to do anything that does not cause a problem for anyone else.
I have 31 years of teaching both learning disabled and cognitively disabled children. I have been trained extensively in working with youngsters who are dyslexic and dyscalculic ( math disabilities). In addition I have taught children who were on the spectrum, including those with Aspergers. I am proficient at assessing a child's strengths and weaknesses and developing a learning program which will build upon strengths in order to address underlying weaknesses.

A Little Bit About Me...

Teaching has been a lifelong practice of mine, whether in a job by choice or in my life by happenstance. I consider myself a natural teacher. I taught Sunday school in high school. I then went on to get a degree in education from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. I taught several years at the preschool level. Since having my son, I have spent many hours volunteering in the public schools. I understand that due to the sheer numbers and environment of our schools, there are many children that may get lost in the system. My undergraduate degree and work experience was in criminal justice. Since retiring from the investigative field I have obtained my Masters in Education specializing in literacy and learning in the content areas. I have been teaching full time in South Korea for the last four years. I started out teaching young learners phonics for one year, English conversation to high school students full time for one year. The last two years have been with third through sixth grade elementary students in a public school.
