I was in a program called "Study Buddies" all four years at high school. I would devote a couple afternoons a week tutoring middle school students (and eventually high school students). During this time I would help them study for tests, complete assigned work, or help clarify any material that the student didn't understand. Also, I helped these students develop their writing and grammar skills. Starting my junior and senior year of high school, I began "one on one" tutoring with selected individuals. Study buddies was a program where several students would show up and the helpers would assist accordingly, but when I began tutoring I specifically met with them at assigned times. I'm in my senior year of High School, I have worked with my siblings on their school all of my life. I've helped my little brother who has ADHD with his homework, I've worked with him through book projects, spelling tests, history homework, pretty much anything and everything. Motivation, learning style, and goal structure are components I consider when setting up a lesson. As a computer programmer, I tend to be task oriented. I recently graduated from the University of Wisconsin River Falls with a BS in Marketing Communications. I enjoy teaching mathematics and biology. If the student is willing to learn in some fashion I can help him or her. I don't have a style. I try to go with the flow. What that means is I assess what the students know, what they don't know, and what they need to know and adjust what I teach and how I teach it accordingly. I can go over/review information as many times as students need it. It is important to go back to the old information that was learned and review it, so students keep adding to what they know as they learn new information. If the students know the old information, then I don't review it as much or as long as I would if they were having problems with remembering the old information that was taught. I try to give each student what they need, based on their deficiencies and their questions.
