A Little Bit About Me...

I am currently working on Masters degree in Chemistry at SUNY Oswego. I hope to graduate December, 2009. I have my BS degree from Suny Oneonta and graduated a year ago. This first year of graduate school I have been a teaching assistant. I teach the general chemistry laboratory. In office hours I also help students with the lecture material and laboratory material.
I have learned through teaching this year that students can sometimes be very frustrating. Through this experience I have learned to be very patient with students and always try to be understanding. I always try to make myself available to them. I am so happy when students accomplish their goals. I hope to gain more experience in teaching and would really enjoy this experience.

I encourage students to ask a lot of questions about the material they do not understand. The student has already heard the lecture from the teacher or professor, so I feel there is not much point to just repeating the lecture. If students ask questions, they will be more receptive to the information that is given in the answers. I also like to use examples or demonstrations to relate the material to "real life", as opposed to just teaching abstract concepts. Above all, I try to keep it interesting for the student.
I have a bachelor's degree in chemistry and biology from SUNY Oswego. I also have my Master's degree from SUNY Oswego. During this time I taught lab classes, as well as doing research. During this same time, I worked part-time as a lab instructor at LeMoyne College. Since then, I have been working on a PhD at Syracuse University. I have continued teaching labs at SU, as ... read more

While studying at SUNY ESF I held a position as a teaching assistant for Western Civilization. This involved grading exams and papers, preparing and giving lectures, and holding office hours to assist students with any questions or concerns they may have had. I also spent time volunteering to teach and after school science club through ESF Outreach for elementary / middle school aged children.
I feel as though every student will have their own niche. They will have a special subject that they enjoy the most and one that they despise. I think that figuring out how the child studies for the subject they enjoy will lead to an understanding of how to motivate that student to learn the subjects that are more difficult for them. Also, if the student's teacher stays positive and pushes him or her towards success by means of positive reinforcement they will succeed.

I have earned my bachelors degree in Biotechnology. I will be finishing my masters in education May 16, 2010. I am pending a teaching certification in Chemistry and Biology which should be granted September 1, 2010. I have worked with all different age groups. Recently I worked in an environmental laboratory where I performed what is taught in the biology and chemistry classroom on a daily basis. I have had a great deal of experience working with youth in many different situations and despite my enjoyment for laboratory work I found myself excited to enter into the teaching profession.
My previous experiences provide a unique benefit in the classroom. I do not only have the science knowledge but I bring real world practicality of the material being taught. Students will relate with the realism of how science affects their daily life. During my student teaching placemen ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have been a teacher for the past 20 years and have learned the best quality is compassion. As part of that compassion, a teacher must listen to each student to determine need and develop an approach of instruction according to the need. Typically I like to give a multiple intelligence survey that helps me figure out how each student thinks. This will help me to use the best teaching techniques to allow the student the greatest chance of success. I have strong High School Math knowledge and have taught Math/Science for the past seven years. As a resource room instructor I had to be well versed in all sciences and all levels of math, except calculus, in order to assist as many students in need as possible.
I enjoy teaching/tutoring high school students and adults in need of support to prepare for college. I am an excellent educator and am able to adopt my teaching style based on th ... read more

I have worked the past two semesters as a Teaching Assistant in the Department of Nutritional Sciences at Cornell University. In the fall, I taught a weekly section of 14 students in Introductory Nutrition and this past semester, I instructed a lab group of 10 students in Human Anatomy and Physiology. Additionally, I have done both volunteer and private tutoring for standardized tests and individual subjects consistently for about 7 years. I have tutored for SATs, MCATs, as well as a variety of subject tests, ranging from mathematics to Spanish. I believe that my considerable teaching experience and very strong background make me an excellent candidate for the microbiology and physics tutoring positions, two subjects in which I am well versed.
My extensive experience in different subjects and venues has engendered in me an adaptive teaching style. I am very comfortable teachin ... read more

My educational experiences center heavily on the sciences. I have a B.A. in chemistry and biology, as well as an M.S. in organic chemistry. These degrees have given me a strong foundation in basic chemical and biological knowledge, as well as more advanced knowledge in both of these fields. More importantly, in pursuing these degrees I have developed the ability to think analytically. I also have an MA in the history and philosophy of science. In completing this degree, I have developed critical thinking skills, as well as skills essential to writing a good essay. I have six years of graduate study under my belt, five of which involved teaching classes and tutoring students in both group sessions and individual instruction.
My goals for my students encompass more than simply answering questions and completing homework assignments. Although these activities are integral to teaching, ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I was fortunate to be able to enter college full-time at the age of fourteen. This gave a great opportunity to pursue a wide variety of interests and still graduate slightly ahead of my peers. As a result I had almost completed the requirements for majors in several subjects, including chemistry, German, music and the subject I received my degree in, biology. In addition to taking courses in these subjects, I was able to work as a German tutor for over a year and as a teaching assistant for two sections of first semester organic chemistry.
I have always enjoyed teaching people in a one-on-one or small group environment. It allows me to tailor my teaching style to fit the individual student or group I’m working with. I enjoy using creative methods to teach a topic, including creating multiple ways to explain a term or concept and providing analogies to concepts that are familia ... read more
