Because I have had to meet the needs of so many different students in so many different environments, I am flexible with teaching methods. A lack of resources overseas drove me to be creative and exercise methods of experiential learning: hands-on and engaged learning. I believe in creating a safe and comfortable learning environment for students, with some room for fun. After graduating college I taught elementary K-8th grade in NYC. I taught for one year and decided to live Paris, France teaching English. I lived in Paris, France for 1.5 years then moved to Rome, Italy, again teaching English. My experiences were wonderful as I met people who really enjoyed learning English and needed it for work. After 6 months I returned to the states and taught at a Junior High School on the Lower eastside of NYC. I left teaching after 10 years to market computers. I have been working as a company CFO and VP Finance in excess of 40 years. There is virtually nothing I do not know regarding accounting and finance. This will provide students with real world experience as well as the principals required in a course study. I also have expert experience in Excel and Word. I began my teaching career in Cooperstown, NY in 2001, as a mid-career professional in search of a meaningful job. Previously, I worked in the entertainment industry. Seeking to make a difference in the lives of our children, I moved to Los Angeles to teach English to the children of Latino immigrants. It was the highlight of my teaching profession. My broad-based educational background gives me a firm foundation for interacting with students on a variety of levels. I have taught both French and Mathematics at the college level, have tutored Math, Physics and Chemistry at the college level, and have substituted in high schools and junior highs as well. As a research mathematician with GE, I have explained mathematical concepts to adults with a wide range of backgrounds.
No one teaching style works with all students, or even a majority of them. I enjoy the challenge of finding ways to make academic subjects interesting and relevant to different students.
