A Little Bit About Me...

I fundamentally believe anyone can learn. If a student isn’t grasping a concept, it just means I have to change my style of teaching. So what is my teaching style…anything that helps a student achieve his or her potential. But the one thing I teach all my students is how to find their learning style. Once you know how you retain information you can do anything.
How do I summarize teaching in my life? I guess the best way to explain my teaching experience is to tell you a story. As a young girl I wanted to be a teacher. A Little Bit About Me...

I earned a BS in Aeronautics and have completed some graduate work in aerodynamics and meteorology. In addition to having given approximately 3000 hours of instruction in aviation subjects, I have authored several textbooks on aircraft design and construction. I've been both a research pilot and a captain on a cargo airline.
My teaching style is straightforward - proceed from the simple to the complex. It appears most subjects require this approach. I find it both helpful and important to try and relate situations encountered in day-to-day life to the specific subject problems.

I have taught remedial, basic, bilingual and honors level classes in Biology, Chemistry, and Environmental Science in class room settings. Because I have had to meet the needs of so many different students in so many different environments, I am flexible with teaching methods. A lack of resources overseas drove me to be creative and exercise methods of experiential learning: hands-on and engaged learning. I have been a foster and adoptive parent for many years, and I have provided classroom and one-on-one instruction to students with many learning styles, both as a parent and as a professional instructor. I have worked with many students, ranging in age from young children to adult learners, including those with special learning needs.
