I am an upbeat and positive person and am willing to adapt to students' needs. I'm willing to work through homework with students, create study plans, review notes or use whatever other methods the student finds helpful. I am about to complete my first year at IU School of Dentistry. I completed my B.S. in Biology at IPFW with a 4.0 GPA and love learning! Science is my specialty but I enjoy other subjects as well. I have experience so far tutoring college-level genetics, both high school and college-level statistics, assisting a student getting her GED online, as well as teaching organic and general chemistry to a student getting ready to take the DAT. I learned much when I took the "Teaching Bookkeeping" class in college. I feel more than qualified to tutor a student in high school accounting, lower math, college accounting. Did all in 4 years yet I did not get my BS for 10 years. Classes not offered together at Defiance College and got them finished at Toledo University. Teaching is very subjective. Each individual learns according to his/her own style. What I find challenging and rewarding is to find that point where it “clicks”. I believe the best way to learn is through experience and discovery. As an example, I can describe the intelligence of an octopus. But until you actually see a video of one opening a jar for a treat, do you truly realize it as a thinking, planning being. I feel that teaching an individual how to use available resources is just as important as the actual subject.
