I am a recent graduate of Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pennsylvania (May 2011). I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a concentration in creative writing. I also have a minor in photography. During my time at Mercyhurst College, I worked as a writing tutor in the school’s writing center. I have two years of experience as a GED tutor, and have graduated 12 students in that time. I have been a computer programmer for 40 years, including 18 years as a freelance programmer. I have dabbled in writing over the years, writing poems, short stores and vignettes. In the past three years I have begun focusing more on writing, and am 2/3 through a novel. I have studied communication, language and writing extensively on my own, and have written a grammar textbook, which I have used successfully with my GED students.

A Little Bit About Me...

Teaching is very subjective. Each individual learns according to his/her own style. What I find challenging and rewarding is to find that point where it “clicks”. I believe the best way to learn is through experience and discovery. As an example, I can describe the intelligence of an octopus. But until you actually see a video of one opening a jar for a treat, do you truly realize it as a thinking, planning being.
