All areas I have been teaching in a formal school setting for over 11 years. I have been a private tutor for 18 years. I have successfully taught and tutored several hundreds of students. I have tutoring experience for all of the Praxis Exams. I also have tutoring experience for the GRE. On an undergraduate level, I have successfully prepared students for the ACT and SAT. I think the best way to teach is to try to find examples that my students will relate to when it comes to instruction. Students can have very different life experiences, which can help, or hinder, their ability to learn certain subjects. My role is to help those students that have difficulty with understanding certain subjects to work with them to come to an understanding of the material, and learn from it. I have a wide variety of professional experience in addition to my educational background. I have nearly a quarter century of experience as an auditor, accountant, financial analyst, HR administrator, etc. My career has been spent at large corparations, small businesses, government agencies and as a free lance independent contractor.

I begin by establishing rapport with the student, and usually I prefer a lighthearted, encouraging style of interaction. I believe every student is capable of learning, but may not have been shown the strategies and skills that will best suit them. I like to help the student identify their learning style, and then teach using strategies that will coincide with that learning style. Often when the student has been taught some different strategies for learning, s/he is more capable of tackling new lessons without additional help. I earned a well rounded education from Western Kentucky University with a strong emphasis in math / Engineering. Since College I have pursued the Surveying field. I have recently obtained the status of Professional Land Surveyor with the State of Kentucky. I have taught young graduates surveying practices in relation to the Engineering field while in management positions. I would be very excited about teaching children. I like to ask questions and get the student involved. I like to get the student engaged as much as possible. I would like to observe the method in which the student obtains the most information and expound on that variable, triggering many senses for better memorization. My teaching style would consist of trying to get the student to understand what they are studying which is considerably better than just simple short term memorization.

I work best with individuals who are self-motivated and determined to succeed. I am the kind of teacher who responds to questions with questions. I understand that a lot of students are just looking for a sufficient answer, but this will not help them understand the material when they are required to take an exam. I am a firm believer in teaching through example as it is the most efficient way to learn the mathematical sciences. Those professors who had the most profound impact on my academic career were always willing to show me various strategies to arrive at the same answer.
