During my college years, I have been working towards a degree in Early Childhood Education. I graduated on May 11, and will soon be getting my teaching certificate for elementary education. As a teacher, I know that each student/ person learns in a different manner. Due to this my teaching methods vary with every person. Once I graduated I was immediately hired as a long term substitute teacher in South Georgia. I wasn't offered a teaching job for the next school year so I moved here to Spartanburg, SC. I obtained a job at a headstart and a tutoring facility.Then in November 2012 I was hired on at SC School for the Deaf and the Blind. I have taught and tutored many students and adults in a variety of subjects. I enjoy tutoring in math the most because I love this subject. I am the author of five historical novels and a number of articles, poems and short stories. I occasionally do short “residences” teaching Language Arts and Drama to special needs students in k-12 schools for VSA Arts of Florida. My graduate studies emphasized American and Tudor/Stuart History. My doctorate included a Criminal Justice minor. I regularly teach writing and grant writing seminars to adults, usually through libraries on weekends or in the evening. I believe everyone will respond well to individualized instruction when the tutor studies the student's learning style and offers the information in the form best suited to each learner. I am patient and encouraging with students. I work hard to find ways to present a subject so that each learner will find it interesting.

I have also substituted for 3 years at all grade levels. I have had to write many papers during my educational experience. My students had to write essays as part of their testing and do extensive research to write papers to enhance their experience in the classroom. All students learn at different levels. I like to incorporate all the learning styles of students. Some learn by hands-on, others by listening, and some by writing. These are all used by me. Each student has their own learning style and a teacher has to help each find what works for each student and then incorporate this to meet the needs for that particular student.
