As a recent college graduate I have extensive knowledge in the physical and biological sciences, including chemistry, geology, soil science, physics, botany. I have strong writing and reading skills, as well as personal interest in history and social science. This past summer I was an intern with the City of San Luis Obispo Parks and Recreation Department in which I was responsible for planning and running environmental education summer camps for kids ages six to twelve. My comments on tutoring Elementary Social Studies : I loved reading about all the famous people when I was in grade school.

I graduated from Eastern Oregon University in 1988 and have taught elementary age for many years. I homeschooled my seven children part of that time and now they are responsible, successful people. Now I'm a retired elementary school teacher and have a half day preschool in the bottom of my home. It has it's own entrance and play yard. Love my kids! In our school, I teach sign language Zoophonics, curiosity using the inspired Reggio Emilia style, a unique method from Italy. We have lots of fun.
Reggio Emilia inspired way of learning where the children learn while they play and create. Lots of imagination and fun.

In 2006 I began working for the American English Institute as a tutor to university students studying English as a Foreign Language. A Little Bit About Me...

My approach is to incorporate multiple learning styles (visual, auditory and so on). I also like to incorporate skills training as part of a scenario when possible. Using techniques like appropriate background music, brief stretch breaks, having the children read to Sierra, my golden retriever, are all techniques that I would like to use. Teaching children would be a joy and very rewarding. I had trouble learning to read when I was young until I attended Mrs. Bird's class. She took the time to meet with me one-on-one and taught me to read and changed my life in the process. Seeing adult learners’ eyes light up when they "get it" have been some of the best times in my career. I would love to see that light in a child's eyes too.

I received a BA in General Business from WSU, and was honored as a Cum Laude graduate. The courses were varied and included a wide array of math application, from supply and demand curves to interest rate calculations. My classmates gave me the nickname "Webster" because I was frequently asked to edit their papers and to tutor them in several different subjects. I love working with teenagers, and watching their faces change when they really GET a concept for the first time!
