I firmly believe that a good education must be adaptable, flexible, and incorporate a variety of learning styles if it is to be of maximum benefit to students. When teaching, I speak with my students about the kinds of activities they feel assist them most in retaining information as well as observing their learning style independently. I do my best to include activities that incorporate visual, kinesthetic, and oral learners. School isn’t always fun and interesting; it is called “work” for a reason. However, if I can’t make it fun I can at least make it engaging and that is what I strive for. I love to experience the thrill of success as a child begins to understand. I enjoy seeing their confusion transform into understanding. I believe children have brilliant minds that just need to be directed or focused in a way that incorporates their frame of reference. I started teaching English-Language Arts & U.S. History in central California, where I taught 8th graders for two years. Then I moved to South Korea, where I taught ESL for one year. After that amazing experience, I moved to South Lake Tahoe and taught English to 7th & 8th graders. While teaching, I also tutored after-school programs for kids that ranged from 2nd grade to high school. I have tutored in the subjects of reading, writing, life science, elem. and middle school math, and Spanish. I graduated with honors from Eastern Washington University and began teaching in the public school in Newport.
