I believe a good teacher will be able to convey the information in way best-suited to the student. A teacher can be extremely knowledgable, but the student must be enabled to learn through motivation and having the material accessible/understandable. I want to make sure the student is on the same page as me, and understands concepts/approaches to learning rather than just memorizing the material.
During my research-based M.Sc. study in Microbiology, I TA'ed three undergraduate courses (General Biology & Introduction to Microbiology). Over the years, I have become more aware of myself so that I can learn more efficiently. Knowledge is not something to be horded. I think we each have a responsibility to share what we know. I love to help people understand. I prefer to teach by lecturing,but I realize that individuals learn subjects individual ways, and thus as a tutor my task is to be clear and patient. The hardest thing about teaching is determining how the individual student learns. I have found that all people learn differently so it is best to understand this process to make the teaching more effective. I like to challenge the individuals I tutor. I believe individuals perform best when they have to work hard for success. At the same time, I am easy-going, amiable and tend to get along with many different types of individuals.
I graduated from UW-Madison with a Finance degree and my MBA degree with an Investment Management focus at UW-Milwaukee in December of 2009. I tutored for nearly two years while at UW-Madison and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I have current knowledge of financial concepts as I am currently enrolled in school and I believe this current knowledge would be an asset in aiding a student learn some of the financial concepts out there.
