A Little Bit About Me...

I was homeschooled for the majority of my education which enabled me to assit my younger brothers and sisters in their studies. I taught a few Science classes including botony and a study of birds and have tutored in highschool math as well. I played volleyball, took 3 years of piano, and was a member of Chior as well. I worked as a teachers aide in a preschool for 2 years. I worked with children from the age of 6 weeks to 5 years. I plan on going to college for either business or diognostic sonography.
I love working with kids of all ages. All children are unique and they all learn in different ways. I believe its the teachers responsibllity to understand how their students learn best and then help communicate the curriculum to them in a way that they will best uderstand and retain that knowledge.

I love teaching in a hands on style in which the student not only has an algorithm of how to solve a specific problem, but has a thorough understanding of the concepts behind the algorithm. I enjoy having analogies or hands-on activities to demonstrate the concepts. I believe that many times people understand the basic concepts from physics in their daily life, but are frightened by equations. Using analogies or hands-on examples initially reinforces their knowledge and increases their confidence which decreases the fear of equations. I enjoy helping students work through tough problems by allowing them to make mistakes and then rework the problem a couple of times the correct way. Since this is my area of expertise, I am able to come up with examples on the fly that will target the areas most troublesome to the student. Mathematics is a field that requires repetition but making that repetition as interesting as possible is a fun challenge. While in undergrad I was active in many student organizations and volunteer opportunities. I volunteered at science olympiad for a year and also tutored middle school students. Once a child starts asking questions you know that they are excited about it and want to learn.
