My comments on tutoring Literature : 35 years teaching experience as a high school English teacher and GED instructor

I particularly enjoy one-on-one teaching; I also enjoy asking students questions to draw from them the knowledge they are seeking.
I have taught English at the high school level for 33 years, both in public and private school. Currently, I am an instructor for a GED class. I am a born teacher, and come from a family full of them. For better or worse for those around me, I am always ready to help with research skills and writing, reading comprehension, assimilating mass amounts of information into a comprehensible format (with/for my coworkers and friends). I believe that anyone is capable of mastering standardized tests as well as any task thrown at them by the most grueling of professors. A Little Bit About Me...

During my last two years at Shorter University, I was employed by both the Shorter University Writing Center and the Shorter University Periscope (the newspaper). I spent those two years tutoring students on the composition and structure of essays, and helped them edit and proofread their work. As an editor for the newspaper, I was a mentor to all of my staff writers, as well as a contributor myself.
I believe that the best way to teach a child or student is by listening to them first. By understanding what they see in the subject, I am able to put what they need to learn into perspective for them. Patience and a great listening ear is the best approach when it comes to communicating the right instructions.
