It is my experience that an instructor delivers more learning when a student has an interest in the subject. "Inspire rather than require," has far greater efficacy in delivering information. I tend to make it fun, interesting and encourage student participation and feedback. Reward, a basic human desire, engenders craving for learning. As each individual’s qualities are unique, I try to determine if one is a visual, auditory or tactile learner. Analogies often make good teaching aids. For example, if the subject were human circulatory systems, shining a light through a leaf reveals veins similar to our own and is more apt to draw the student into the subject. I help the learner tie the information or concepts to their own knowledge base thus establishing ownership. I tutored for the Federal Way, WA campus of DeVry University from spring of 2007 to fall of 2008. I tutored students in English, multiple maths, programming, game design, logic, and test prep. I stopped tutoring to devote my time to the final project of my degree. When working with a students, I like to set realistic goals and checkpoints for their progress, in order to reach the end goals that the students and/or parents have in mind.
