Interactive--listening to and learning from student to determine "where they're at". Then, posing questions to enable them to find their own beginning/solution/answers. If session doesn't find a promising beginning, start from a base and progress with them. Interaction prevents or indicates "going too fast" or overwhelming them--"the eyes" are engaged or indicate "shut-down". Making the math or education "mean something" provides a reason for learning or further developing the concepts. Encouragement and sincere compliments are very important. Sharing your own struggles or an "ah-huh" moment helps ease the role differences toward a comfortable, encouraging, learning relationship.

A Little Bit About Me...

I taught high school religious education for approximately six years. This required relating to students, some of whom were reluctant to be there. This required preperation as well as flexibilty to adjust to what worked and what didn't work. I taught financial analysis for decision making while at Weyerhaeuser Comapany. Students were all levels of the comapany from senior maagement to entry level people. I was part of the team that developed this course work. As a part of rolling out standard company wide financial systems at WeyerhaeuserI instructed new system users in how to get there job done utilizing the new software.

I have been a Certified Public Accountant working in public accounting since 1987. I know accounting extremely well and have found I can explain incomprehensible subjects to business people, inexperienced accountants in ways that greatly incease thier understanding. I have also taught Native American Culture classes.
I have been helping interns and non accounting people with accounting issues and classes and find that I greatly enjoy it. I have also been explaining how to accounting issues to people whose first language is not English. I have successfully helped students return to college to finish thier accounting. I think I would be good at helping high school or college level kids.

I grew up in Cameroon, a former colony of France and Great Britain. French is the official language so, learning the language was critical to complete my education. I earned a BA in Business Administration and went to France to complete some courses in Accounting. My passion for sharing knowledge led me to teaching after my BA in Business. I thought high school students at Institut Samba, a private school in Cameroon, for 3 years. I always have at least one student I am tutoring; this is either in French or Accounting. I just graduated from PLU with a degree in Business, a concentration in human resources, and a minor in psychology. I maintained a high GPA throughout my college experience and graduated with honors. I have very good study skills and am very organized. I took a variety of classes and excelled in writing papers and test preparation. I have never tutored children but have given children riding lessons and have helped 4-H children learn horsemanship skills. I consider myself very patient and a good teacher.
