Leading the student into discovery by asking them questions, understanding what the student knows/understands and building on that. I am low key, but demand a good grasp on the subject before moving forward with new information. I have been home schooling my two children for 13 years. My oldest is graduating this year and attending the college of her choice. My youngest is in 9th grade. It is difficult to do well when a student is dependent on his/her ability to recall from extensive facts where no understanding of the interrelationship is appreciated. I believe scientific conversation regarding seemingly complex subjects can serve to demystify the material. Humor often helps in this. I graduated from Vanderbilt University in May 2010, and I am currently applying to medical school. In high school and college, I tutored in math, science, English, and test prep. Math and Science are my favorite subjects, but I also have much experience with tutoring English and grammar. I have also tutored people preparing for tests such as the ACT, SAT, and Gateway.
