Science is a topic that I have always been interested in. I earned a bachelor degree in chemistry, which has enabled me to gain an understanding in many areas of math and science. I went back and obtained my education license to teach science, where my real passion lies. I have taught many high school sciences for the past couple of years. My goal is to connect the information to the real world. I want students to understand why it is important to know today’s topic. I want to empower the students with the same drive to know how the world works. Motivation is key. A motivated student will care more about doing well. I enjoy teaching mathematics and biology. If the student is willing to learn in some fashion I can help him or her. I tend to teach by examples for mathematics and for biology I teach in a lecture style, answering questions in-depth when necessary. In both fields I can give in-depth explanations for concepts. Specifically in mathematics, deriving proofs is especially easy for me and could be useful for those students that wish to see the "why" of certain equations. I believe that teaching is not knowing the answers, but understanding how to get to the answers. I am a very organized and patient tutor and have great respect for my students. I believe that with the right tools, any child can learn and improve their understanding. I know no two students learn in quite the same way, and I am able to adjust my teaching methods to fit a child's needs. I am a recent graduate of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. When considering my teaching style, it is difficult to explain a single process for teaching. When working with different people it is important to remain creative, inventive, and patient. Every person has different learning styles and it is important to recognize in that person what helps them understand more fully. Whether it is diagram and pictures, breaking a complex problem into many simple parts, comparing similar examples that are familiar to the person, or simply taking the time to make sure that the child feels comfortable saying "I don't know". All of these are useful tools, but in my opinion by far the most important is patience. Remaining patient when someone doesn't understand is the absolute most important thing. My teaching approach varies depending on the student. With youth, I am both patient and focused. I am also considerate and easy going. As the student gets older, I let them dictate what they would like to learn and the intensity they would like to learn it at. I respect students of all ages and I am always attentive to their needs. My experience tutoring Math and Science is extensive. I started formally tutoring Chemistry in 1996 as a chemistry tutor.
