I started tutoring the ASVAB in 1996. Since then, I have helped recruits join all branches of the Armed forces. I choose to specialize in this field because of my familiarity with the military and the exam. Additionally, there is a demand for this service that needs to be filled by one with experience. My own ASVAB score were high enough to obtain any position in the Armed Forces. The position I chose required high scores in math, electronics, mechanical ability, vocabulary and reading. My choise was that of a Gunner's Mate, Missile, in the United States Navy. The ASVAB exam can be difficult to many. The questions are designed to be tricky and misleading. I would have to say that my teaching style is flexibility. I believe that it is necessary to gauge your students as a group and individually before deciding on which teaching methods would be most effective. I believe that naturalistic teaching is important. I also believe in a form of discrete trial training. It takes some of the basics from Discrete Trial and adapts them to fit the needs of the students that are struggling with certain subjects. Research has proven that all students learn differently and lessons cannot be taught primarily through auditory learning. A teacher especially one in the younger grades must engage in auditory, visual, tactile, kinestics and other learning methods.
