I am the first college graduate in my family. In the last 18 years, I earned an Associate's Degree and a Bachelor's degree in Linguistics with a minor in Spanish. During my studies in Linguistics, I concentrated on language acquisition, phonology, and grammar and syntax. In 2010, I earned a Master's in Education with a concentration in teaching ESL. I have assisted a number of students; Grades 1-12 as well as college-aged and continuing education in various math and science courses. My previous career included 27 years in the television industry at various local production facilities in Oklahoma, Texas, Maryland as well as the Washington DC bureau of the ABC Network. I love tutoring all ages, and find that adults, while a bit harder to reach in the beginning are usually the most enjoyable to work with.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching philosophy is that, as educators, we must "teach the whole person". Even though I am a language arts teacher, I try to instill goals and values into my students by completing a variety of acitivities. I love hands-on teaching and allowing my students to have fun while learning. Being a visual learner myself, it's extremely important to utilize the technology that is all around us that our students love so much.
Because of my love for literature, I decided to engage in the teaching profession. I earned my BA at Salisbury University and immediately was offered a job teaching high school English. While teaching, my love for reading and writing continued to grow and influced me to pursue a masters degree in Reading Specialization. I currently teach 6th grade language arts and am spreading my love of reading, writing, and grammar to each class that I teach.
