Writing & Public Speaking are my niche. As a tutor, I have helped students at all academic levels (K-12, and beginner undergrad) I've recently discovered a joy for helping others learn and am currently a substitute teacher in Henrico County Public Schools. My current students are primarily at elementary, middle school and high school levels. Throughout my sessions I teach and emphasize the mechanics of writing. We do not all learn to speak, read and write languages in the same way. Some of us learn by mostly hearing or saying; some of us learn by mostly seeing and looking; and some of us learn by mostly doing, using touch and moving parts of our bodies or things. I use all three ways to learn when helping others improve their English. I use hearing, seeing and doing. I check what students learn in one way with the other two ways of learning. My teaching styles vary depending on the student. I had one student who was an adult, moving to Ecuador for 2 years to work. I taught him the basics using methods such as flash cards, workbooks, and homework assignments. We met 3x a week for 3 months. In college I taught a Spanish course for a Christian Highschool near my university. This was rather different since the students were in their early teens. My method with them was 'FUN.' I used pop culture and things that interested them to help them learn.
