Individualized learning/teaching for optimal comprehension

I started tutoring in my teens helping young children with Autism Spectrum Disorders develop English and Math skills as well as speech therapy and public speaking. I tutored my fellow students while attending Carroll Community College in English 101 and 102 as well as Creative Writing. I then moved on to being a one on one with high school students with special needs in the Baltimore area.
I take a hands on material approach to learning/teaching. I feel that young students learn best when they can physically learn, such as through blocks/puzzles/interactive learning devices and other similar approaches. I try to let the student use their hands as much as I can to aid in their learning process. For older students such as my high school students or their college counterparts I use more direct audial teaching and visual teaching styles. Every person learns differently, so I cater my t ... read more

Equipping, Movtivating & Stimulating Minds!

When teaching, I take the time to learn my students' personalities and strengths. Then, I tailor a strength-based approach to teaching my students new concepts and ideas. I usually incorporate a mixture of traditional and non-traditional teaching techniques in my lesson plans. I provide structured opportunities and supports for my students to apply what they have learned. I also challenge my students to take ownership of their own learning process by incorporating leadership development and civic engagement activities into my lesson plans.
I help others become their best selves. I enjoy teaching and tutoring youth and adults. Over the years, I have had opportunities to not only mentor and tutor youth, but to teach and tutor adults, as well. I have experience teaching and tutoring the following subjects: (1) Language Arts/Reading; (2) Language Arts/Writing; (3) Social Studies; ... read more

I would say that my teaching style is very interactive. Anyone can give instructions but I love feedback from a one on one situation as well as a group environment. I base alot of my instruction on analogies; when a person can relate an experience or another word to a term being tought, their understanding is broadened and 99% of the time embedded in the longterm memory. That to me is not only developing the ability to draw on a built up knowledge base, but also broadens ones ability to convey what has been learned.
I have always wanted to teach. When I was a child I would round up the kids in my neighborhood and make them do lessons that I created. I do remember they did not like that. I went to college and earned a BS in Biology always knowing that I would eventually teach the sciences. I was an excellent student and have always found pride in myself on my ability to communi ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I earned my Masters Degree in Business Management/Business Administration later in life. I always felt that it was very important to try to improve one self and to help those who are in need of help. I think is very important to strive to ensure that every child has the chance to be the best that they can be and have the best education they deserve.
I love teaching and working with all children. I have always wanted to be a teacher, but life happened and I was married living half way around the world in another country constantly moving. I beleive all children can learn it just may take someone to give them a little help and direction.

A Little Bit About Me...

In my experience with teaching, I find that the best way to connect and convey the information is to provide aural, visual and experiential exposure to the material. Everyone does not learn at the same pace or through the same exposure to material. It is also important to be perceptive to the possibility of student frustration as this is almost always a road block that will arise and if not identified can lead to lower absorption of the material or complete lack of understanding and drive altogether.
As a re-founding member and President of the Syracuse University chapter of the National Society of Pershing Rifles (www.pershingriflessociety.org) I was responsible for the planning and instruction of between 12 and 20 students in the areas of Leadership, Project Management, Exhibition Drill and Wilderness Survival. I love all sorts of positive ideals of teaching, especially when the teacher gives students the power to teach themselves by relating everyday experiences, such as sights and sounds with different lesson planners. I understand how the human works in a classroom, some students will grasp concepts because of their up bringing and the results of having a balance home. Others will sometimes wander off, mentally because of attention. There are other cases, but I believe every child needs a fair chance to prove themselves to their own self. What makes a great teacher is their way to "rhyme" thought with lesson with application."

I enjoy being around the students. I wake up every morning wanting to go to work. There are so many students that learn in many different ways and I have always structured my lessons to try to reach all of those students. I have many hand-on activities and also power-point lessons. The day that the teacher sits behind a desk and has the students reading from books are long over. I am very active in the classroom and try to make learning interesting and exciting. If I can change the mind of one student it makes all the time and energy worth wild.
In 2002 I went back to school to earn my bachelor's degree so I could continue on with my Masters. Two years later I graduated with my Master's of Education in Counseling. Working with kindergarden through Adulthood, I work with a student to help them get to where they can be their best. Additionally, it is always my mission to teach the student self confidence and basic study skills in order for them to compete with their classmates or to compete with others similarly situated. I work with students one on one or in a small classroom setting. I get the children actively involved in the learning process and I help them to learn how to conquer their study weaknesses.

Enabling a student to percieve an idea or to help them solve a problem is my passion. Using thinking outside of the box methods, I open up a new way of percieving concepts. I love to teach based on hands on methods. I truly believe it's the best way to learn. Therefore, I try to incorporate this method through creative measures.
