I am interested in tutoring because I love teaching regardless of the subject matter. I’ve been lucky enough to be given the opportunity to try several different content areas such as Special Education 7th grade Science in a Push-In model, ESOL, Home and Careers, Career and Financial Management as well as substitute teaching in many areas K-12, in addition to teaching technology in multiple districts. My background as a manufacturing engineer gives me a vantage point of what is required in the real world for success and survival in the working world. I Love to work with children to transfer knowledge and help them learn difficult to understand concepts. Currently, I volunteer 3 hours every Sunday to teach 6th through 9th graders. We start with a lesson (eg. ratio, percent, geometry, algebra, or probability), then move to a quiz or test. Finally, we end with a Math Jeapordy game or a Math Millionare Game. Students are excited to do the Jeopardy and win a prize. I believe learning should be fun and we use a lot of materials from the internet. We use a lot of Math games to make the class filled with fun and hands-on-activities.

During my time at the Rochester Institute of Technology, I was a student grader while working towards my B.S. in Computational Mathematics. I obtained my degree with Highest Honors, and an overall GPA of 3.88. I graded mostly college algebra and early calculus. I was required to do the same homework and quizzes the students did, and create answer keys. Then, I would go through each problem and either give full credit for a correct answer and work, or partial credit if needed. By following their work, I was able to see where they made mistakes, and write in notes on what they needed to do. I will be returning to RIT for a second bachelor’s degree, in Industrial Engineering, which also requires a strong math background.
