A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that all children are capable of learning, but many experience barriers that inhibit the learning process. My strategy is to identify these barriers, remove them whenever possible, or otherwise embrace them and work within the circumstances to achieve the best possible outcome. My background in counseling and psychology has proven invaluable in the classroom and in collaborating with parents and educators. I am looking into the process of becoming a certified teacher, and will strive to make a difference in your child's life, helping them become more successful and enthusiastic learners.
I have been a substitute teacher for grades K-12 since 2001 and worked as a tutor for Siena's Higher Education Opportunity Program. As a Buffalo State graduate, I have received Dean's List award. I have earned two Master Degrees, Master of Social Science in Public Administration and Master of Science in Reading that helped me to teach to the students who face difficulties in the content area reading. I am exposed to and trained with numerous research-based reading programs such as Reading Recovery, Fountas and Pinnell GRL, and more. As an AIS teacher, I pull out students to teach math and reading skills. Currently, I teach ESL to the adult students as well.
I am blessed that I am not academically extremely intelligent. Otherwise, I could never be sympathetic to the students who struggle processing various concepts. This thought brings me to the scientist Einstein, who says, "It's not that I'm so smart, it's just that I stay with problems longer." I believe in being persistent, consistent, and have patience ... read more

More About This Tutor...

Sine high school, I have worked with children in BOCES. However, I started college later in life, after children and marriage. I wanted to provide my children with an education that I couldn't afford since I knew nothing of grants in 1974. I started with my AA and did not stop until I achieved my MS. My education has taught me discipline, research, study habits, and critical thinking skills. I have tutored students K-12; in Language Arts, Reading, Literature, English, Parenting, Nutrition, Careers, and electives for 11 years. Each individual student has taught me something new.
My teaching style is to discovery how each child learns, whether it is visual, audio, movies, written, tactile, CD's, adaptive technology, and re-learning. I want my students to have success and become life-long learners while providing them with the tools that help them reach their potential. Learning ... read more

Besides my formal degrees, I believe it is my experience that makes me highly qualified for a tutoring position. My experiences include working in rural, urban and suburban school districts. I have also worked with children with disabilities through the Center for Disabled and as a special education teacher in an inclusion classroom. Through my graduate program, I tutored at a summer reading program. I am a strong believer in Multiple Intelligences. I know that first I must learn who my students are and how they learn if I am to teach them successfully. I employ the Socratic method often possible, and keep lessons as student-centered as possible. I frequently make use of the students' interests and technology to engage them. Students thrive when they see the usefulness of what they are learning, and when techniques are adapted to their needs.
As a professional educator, I am dedicated to seeing all students succeed. I have earned two bachelor degrees, a BA in History and a BA in English, as well as New York State certification and my MAT Social Studies. I have tutored throughout my academic career, and continue to teach and tutor in a wide variety of subjects.

After graduating college I taught elementary K-8th grade in NYC. I taught for one year and decided to live Paris, France teaching English. I lived in Paris, France for 1.5 years then moved to Rome, Italy, again teaching English. My experiences were wonderful as I met people who really enjoyed learning English and needed it for work. After 6 months I returned to the states and taught at a Junior High School on the Lower eastside of NYC. I left teaching after 10 years to market computers. My skills as an educator served me well and I did extremely well. After approximately 8 years I decided I wanted to go back to teaching, and have been teaching the use of computers. I enjoy helping individuals to increase their skills and achieve success!

A Little Bit About Me...

I do not believe in standardized testing. Each child has the capability of learning, but not all children have the ability to take tests, for whatever reason. I tend to "test" by playing games, such as Jeopardy, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, etc...and have the questions be cumulative in nature, not just on the part that we are learning. This makes the kids have to learn and absorb the information, and I was told by some students that they like the way I do it. With football, it's basically the same way. I myself have learned to become more patient, more understanding, and a better listener. I have discovered that the people tend to underestimate kids, and if they really want to learn, they will.
I have spent my whole adullt life tutoring, mentoring and being a role model to others by being involved as a coach for the local Pop Warner football team, as well as serving as a tu ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy helping others achieve their goals. I am a very optimistic person and try to focus on peoples strengths. I am extremely patient and easy to get along with, and will do whatever it takes for my subject to have success. I have my own method for studying which I feel works, but may not work for everybody so I am willing to find out what works for an individual. I also feel that tutoring is a learning experience for both teacher and subject, and I look forward to the oppurtunity.
I started my career at Fairfield University as a Biology student and quickly learned that it was an exciting and very challenging field. A Little Bit About Me...

I love being able to teach someone something new. I love learning, but have always been a visual learner, so whether I'm teaching someone how to read, or simply helping them improve their reading skills, I introduce visual aids. I am patient, easy going and a great listener. When it comes to teaching/tutoring/mentoring, I have always been very hands on. I strive to create an environment where the pupil feels comfortable and he or she is excited to learn.
I graduated Cum Laude from Manhattan College with a double major in Psychology and Communications. In addition to studying for two majors, I was also a Division 1 athlete and held 2 jobs. Seeing as I was very busy with extracirricular activities, I believe that my graduating with honors was truly a testament to how hard I worked. Since college, I have worked in two jobs that have really tested my gramatical, reading, editing ... read more
