A Little Bit About Me...

I completed my masters degree in an accelerated program. This required more credit hours in a shorter time, while working in the field of study. I have worked in many different schools and settings where the abilities range from gifted education to special education. I have conducted case studies, learning profiles, behavior plans, and other studies that require individual attention. I have tutored students in Reading, English, Math, and the Arts. During my undergraduate work my content specialty was English Language Arts.
Since I am fairly fresh to the market, I have learned many of the newer teaching strategies that benefit a wide array of students. A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that different teaching styles help different students. A method of both lecture and active learning can be effective for the widest range of students. This allows the students to get a brief introduction to the day’s material before they work in groups on questions about the material. I feel that student’s can learn best from each other because they are all at the same level. If a group is unsure of an answer they can always ask the teacher or look it up in a book. Finally, active learning demands that the students find the answers instead of being told them. This will benefit them greatly once they join the work force.

I have worked as a tutor in my college's writing center and as a teaching assistant in major course requirements. I will graduate at the end of this month with a Bachelor's of Arts degree in English, having completed more than 90 credit hours in literature studies and 18 credit hours of creative writing. I am a recipient of the Haussner Endowed Writing Award and have presented my work at the Sigma Tau Delta English Honor Society annual convention (2010 & 2011) and my college's Student Research Day.
