A Little Bit About Me...

I started off college at Mohawk Valley Community College and earned a Liberal Arts and Science degree. I feel that all college students should be well rounded and should take a wide variety of courses. I then enrolled at Utica College to finish my BS degree. Over those two years, I took 18 science courses and most of them were accompanied by labs. It was stressful and difficult but it was something I was determined to complete. I thought I wanted to go to medical school, but later decided against it. Also during my time at Utica College, I conducted medical research with Aspartame and Omeprazole on mice. I spent some time writing these up to be submitted for journals. The instructor and I are on a hiatus from this project. Learning and teaching is my passion. In high school it ws teachers with the same passion that made learning fun and encouraged me to achieve academic success. Most any subject can be made interesting if approached the right way. Mostly it is about patience and good respectful communication. I especially cherish working with young children who are usually starving for real knowlege, but are lacking the opportunity to engage their minds in a meaningful way. I have found that with kids, you get back in effort what you put in.
In college, I in part supported myself by tutoring in math and organic chemistry. I have earned a BS in Biology and a Doctorate in Medicine (but I am retired from clinical practice). I love to help a student work their way through any difficulty they are having in any of the major subjects. It is always a challenge to direct the students learning and not do the work for them. But it is a good challenge! While I was a supervisor in the ACE based Christian school, I helped many of the students in the school to understand the areas, especially of math and science, where they had difficulty. Most recently I had the challenge of tutoring my wife, who is working on her Bachelors in Healthcare Management, through Business Math and Business Algebra. Again I state that it can prove to be a great challenge, to let her do the work, and not me.
