A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style varies from student to student based on playing level, musical interests, and personality. I use a mix of method books and aural learning techniques. The student's musical priorities always come first!
I have been playing music my whole life. I began playing piano at six years old, saxophone at ten, bass guitar at thirteen, and guitar at fourteen. Throughout my high school career I played a variety of rock band gigs on guitar, bass, and keyboards; I also played a variety of jazz gigs on saxophone. Currently I am a music student at William Paterson University, and am graduating this May with a degree in Jazz Saxophone Performance.

Mike's Guitar Studio is based on the belief that the students needs are of the utmost importance. The Studio is committed to meeting those needs. As a result, a high percentage of our business is from repeat customers and referrals. Lessons are catered towards what the student wants to learn. There is no one method that works for each student. Each student has different ways of learning, we recognize this and apply it to our teaching policy. I have now been playing the guitar for roughly eight years. Performing at school concerts to charity events and now playing gigs at local clubs and restaurants, I am venturing off towards the directions of teaching the instruments to willing students. I have been teaching students from the age of 14-17 for the past year as some of them have began their own bands and playing at concerts.
I prefer to teach towards the student, meaning working not only on the students strengths but also their weakness. By doing so, the student will be able to play at their highest level. Specifically, teaching the guitar is much more abstract than learning Math or English. The guitar takes coordination, hearing, and soul to learn. I plan on teaching every student not to just play songs but how to truly play the guitar.

My comments on tutoring Guitar : The basics of performing and songwriting with acoustic or electric guitar. Setup and maintenance.

In both my technical business and music coaching backgrounds, I take two different approaches: - In a group class, I teach structured lessons with engaging group exercises where possible and time for Q&A. - In individual coaching, I assess each learner's intrinsic motivations (mastery, learning, recognition, etc.) for taking the lessons and then structure assignments that apply to and challenge these motivators.
As a Product and Project Manager with over 10 years of cumulative experience managing software, web and video game products to market, I offer students real-world perspectives and exercises to prepare them for real-world design, production, quality assurance, leadership and marketing careers. I tend to teach the concepts that are not found in textbooks and always challenge my students to think critically.

After graduating with my BS in chemistry, I went into industry and worked as an analytical chemist. After a short time in industry, I returned to school to pursue my MS in Chemistry at the University of Hawaii. At the University of Hawaii, I had the opportunity to be a teaching assistant for four years and tutor undergraduate students in all aspects of chemistry. After 12 successful years as a pharmaceutical chemist, I began taking classes at Pace University and recently I have finished my requirements for graduation in August when I expect to receive my NYS Initial Certification in Chemistry 7-12.
