Success is Feasible

In 2011 to 2012 I worked as a lead tutor for Academic Achievers in Muncie. My core focus was to improve writing skills. I would help students organize their thoughts into a structured document, and on occasion I would help build their vocabulary with five words of the week. Currently, I work at the Muncie Children's Museum where I create programs for children to exercise their motor and critical thinking skills in the visual arts and music.

Testing Strategies is one of my top subjects! Elementary students can struggle with standardized math tests because they view it as a math test as opposed to a problem-solving test. In math, one has to know how to apply a skill to come up with a correct answer. For multiple choice test, one can often times find the correct answer by using other types of reasoning outside of mathematics, or at least make choosing the correct answer choice significantly more probable.

My teaching style is one of friendly leadership. Working through problems or lessons with the student by leading them through it, then working it with them side by side while explaining the details helps them achieve the accomplishment of learning without making them feel as if they were just instructed how to do it. I believe that all children are unique and gifted in some way. I truly prefer to work with them one-on-one. I believe the greatest thing about knowledge is the ability to share it. I love to learn, but that is only the first step. The true reward comes in being able to impart that knowledge of someone else. However, each person learns differently. Whether in a classroom setting or one-on-one tutoring, it is imperative that the teacher learn how each student learns. This allows them to teach in a manner that produces the greatest results in students.
