A Little Bit About Me...

As one of only 60 graduates in the Biochemistry&Molecular Biophysics program, I have extensive training in mathematics, physical/organic chemistry, and biophysics. My double major in Molecular&Cellular Biology couples biological systems and human physiology with the "harder" physical/chemical sciences. With over 5 years experience as a Medical Dosimetrist, I have only recently turned to more creative pursuits. I'm currently a freelance writer, composing print copy, articles, reports, web content, and e books. Most of my direct tutoring experience has been through college(I led many study groups), and through work (training med students), but I have also assisted my son and his friends throughout his (now 6th grade) scholastic career.

I enjoy helping students succeed in math. I talk to the student to find out what the student's strengths and weaknesses are. Then I try to relate what they are learning to a skill they have already mastered. I believe students need to know the practical applications for what they are learning. Many of the practical applications come from my financial and woodworking background. I want students to understand the process for solving problems before using and relying on a calculator and to be able to tell if their answer is reasonable. To make math more fun, I like to incorporate their interests into the math they are learning when possible.

I have recently have earned a BS degree in Electrical Engineering and a minor in Mathematics in DEC 2009. I have helped and still currently tutor my younger brother through his calculus courses. I work very well in teaching and working with others. I have taught martial arts self defense and discipline for over 10 years in Wind Fist Kung Fu as an instructor.
