A Little Bit About Me...

My experience includes teaching college English for three years. The courses I taught (Composition I and II) required me to know the mechanics of English (grammar, spelling, punctuation, etc.) as well as various forms of writing (narrative, expository, compare/contrast, cause/effect, research-supported, etc.). I also have experience teaching English as a Second Language (ESL). For the past several months, I have worked as a substitute teacher for kindergarten through 12th grade. Substituting has given me the experience of teaching all ages and backgrounds in a variety of subjects. In 2007, I graduated with a Master of Science degree in Adult Education. With my undergraduate degree in hand I taught Marketing and Sales at Whiteside Area Vocational Center in Sterling, IL, for eight years. I left teaching to enter the corporate world working for several companies, i.e., National Manufacturing Company in Sterling, Amerock Corporation in Rockford, and Greenlee-Textron in Rockford. I moved from a product manager to national account manager. Following my corporate experience I returned to tutoring students, K-12, in Princeton, IL, in math up through geometry, and specializing in tutoring students who could not go to school either due to an accident or illness.
I am best in a one-on-one environment and can acclimate to most personalities. I love learning and care very much about passing that on. I attempt to find each student's "barrier" to learning and customize my approach. I am especially good in the math subjects.

I have a great deal of experience in educating students. I have earned my BA from Northern Illinois University in Communications, and I also have earned my MAT from Rockford College in Education. I have had my Type-03 Elementary Teaching Certificate since April of 2009. I have multiple degrees in computer and electrical engineering from Purdue University. I also have a partial degree in Accelerated Associates in Culinary Arts from Kendall College and a few classes in Computer Science in the Masters program in Computer Science and the University of Illinois Chicago. My early teaching and learning style was to do as many problems that were thrown at me in class or the text.
