My teaching style is to individualize instruction for each child. I believe that every child has their own way of learning and I would teach in a way so that they could be successful. I teach one concept at a time, building on each concept as they master it. I have a style that is very positive and encouraging so as to keep the student motivated. After graduating from California State University in 1992 with a Bachelors degree in Child Development and Family Studies I taught and directed a school for a period of seven years before returning home to homeschool my own children for a period of ten years from preschool through eighth grade.

I emphasize meaning in my instructional style. Rather than, say, inculcate a formula for comma us, I try to convey how comma use provides meaningful structure to an idea, i.e. the sentence. In the larger sphere of things, I believe in showing a student how a piece of literature--which may well include his or her own writing--is meaningful to himself. When this is accomplished, I have found that the "meaning" of the work provides the necessary impetus to motivate the student.
