A Little Bit About Me...

I have been teaching elementary students since 1995 in 1st and 4th grades. I have taught all subject areas, especially language arts and math. I want to encourage students to think for themselves and to work through their learning in a way that makes sense to them. Here is a Greek proverb to consider: All good things good to know are difficult to learn.
Whenever possible, I use highlighters, colored pencils, hands-on manipulatives, and other items to help students learn.

A Little Bit About Me...

In general, I've always loved Science and Social Studies, so those are my strong points. I love talking about History and learning new things every day. Science can be exciting, but also tricky. I'd love to help teach, and even learn more, alongside someone who needs the information. Knowledge is power, especially when it helps you get a good grade ;) About myself-- I love music, watching funny videos on YouTube, and drinking Starbucks. I graduated High School as Valedictorian in 2012, and right now I am in my third year as a Health Science Major at Sam Houston State University.

Everyone can learn - it just takes the right presentation!

I am a behavioral specialist with 12 years of experience working with individuals between the ages of 2 and 19 who have been diagnosed with ADD/ADHD, Traumatic Brain Injury, emotional disturbance, Autism, Downs Syndrome, and other developmental disorders. This is what I love doing, and I have the patience to reteach in multiple ways over multiple days. Over the past 5 years I have taught English Language Arts to sixth graders, and tutored in all 6th grade subject areas while using positive reinforcement to enhance productivity. In September, I will be sitting for the certification exam to become a board certified behavior analyst (BCBA). I believe that everyone can learn and everyone has their strengths. We just have to figure out how to let their inner scholar come out to play.

My comments on tutoring Elementary Reading : Experience in teaching Kindergarten and First grade reading.

I got my B.S. degree in Elementary Education in 2004. I am very eager to help children learn. Children are like sponges, they soak up a wealth of information at such a young age. My experience consists of working as a long term sub for third and fourth grades in Fredericktown, Missouri. I have also substituted in the Pasadena ISD, Channelview ISD, and Sheldon ISD. I have taught all ages. From Kindergarten to High School students. My degree concentration is in history. But, I prefer to help with reading, phonics, vocabulary, spelling, and math.
Each child has different learning abilities. Hands on is the best type of teaching.
