I have discovered that every students is capable of achieving greatness if someone will take the time and effort to learn their learning style. I pride myself in being able to break things down to the most basic levels if necessary in order to reach a student. Often you have to know a child's personality, background, and home life in order to understand what he or she relates to. I don't believe in teaching a subject, I believe in teaching a student. I substituted after graduation and realized I loved teaching. In college I was asked to tutor for my instructors. My classmates came over to my house to study. I am a visual learner and I have found that most other people are too. This means that it is important to understand concepts behind each topic were learning. For example, a topic that I had to explain a couple weeks ago was "renal physiology". I believed it was important for the student to understand that water is re-absorbed in all the spots that aldosterone acts, not just memorize where water is re-absorbed. Although, it is important to learn the skills of repetition also. I like to ask questions after we go over topics to make sure that the student is gaining understanding of the topic.
