My comments on tutoring Biology : I have taught all levels of biology including PreAP and AP.

My teaching style varies according to the needs of the student.
My teaching experience includes over twenty years in Texas public schools. I have taught science to grades six through twelve that include AP Biology, PreAP Biology, Biology, AP Chemistry, PreAP Chemistry, Chemistry, GMO, and Environmental Science. My mathematics experience includes seven years of teaching seventh and eighth grade mathematics, as well as Algebra I. I have also had success STAAR and Algebra I EOC exams.

A Little Bit About Me...

My preferred method of teaching is hands-on, through real experiments. Unfortunately, experiments cannot always be done, so I use lots of illustrations and age-appropriate analogies that are easy to relate to. Many times students are convinced that science is a subject too difficult to conquer, that they must just survive it, but science is all around us. I strive for that "a-ha" moment when a student realizes that all biological and physiological processes are interrelated and that the trick to understanding science is to build on previously learned concepts. I believe that teaching solid fundamentals and relating more difficult topics to already learned information is key to helping students thoroughly understand the subject.

My teaching style depends on the student and subject I'm dealing with. For the non-reading adults I started by teaching them letter recognition and basic sounds; moved on to simple words; then sentances. During my college class I would review the evening's lesson and goals, then have the students perform the exercise in the textbooks. During the practical exercise I made myself available to all the students and gave one-on-one instruction to those that needed it.
I taught all subjects for adult learners preparing for the GED tests through Region IX Education Services Center's Adult Education program for 4 years in the evenings. I also taught English as a Second Language to adults. I am an Adult reading tutor for adults who could not read.
