I am currently a High school Spanish teacher at Lydian Academy in Menlo Park. I was a Tutor for adults in New York City when I lived there. Currently I teach Private violin lessons and I have taught group Violin lessons in both the school system and music academies. I provide Music Therapy services for older adults with alzheimer's disease and other disabilities as well as groups of older adults. the classes are tailored for each student. My belief is based upon the idea that all children are different and consequently, they learn differently. I have been taught how to approach those of ESL backgrounds, a multitude of handicaps, and learning disabilities, just to name a few. For instance, every once in a while, a child will take too long to copy notes off of the board or doesn't understand directions that well. For istances like this, I write down notes and tape them to their desks, provide additional coaching and prompts, or even modify assignments. I have found that teaching is what I love to do and learning about children through the perspective of my education has made me so much more successful in how I approach children as a class, but also at an individual level. I have taught music in public education for the last 15 years. I have been involved in church music ministry for over 25 years, and currently am the church pianist in Stockton, Ca. I love working with children of all ages. Math is my second love and I almost majored in math instead of music. Math was always easy for me in school. Although I don't enjoy writing, I am very strong in written English and enjoy proofreading papers. I strive to include various learning styles when working with children. Some students learn best by listening or writing, while others need movement or tactile experiences to help in comprehension.
