My comments on tutoring Pre-Algebra : I have had much success helping students through pre-algebra. With the fundamentals to algebra and the beginning concepts in geometry being introduced, students can struggle if their math foundation is not strong. It is important to address any difficulties before discouragement sets in. Specific weaknesses are sometimes masked, especially if scores are inconsistent; or if the student doesn't "test well"; or if the student generally struggles with organizational or basic arithmetic skills. When working with a student, I can quickly assess and readily address underlying weaknesses, by looking past whether any one problem is right or wrong, to analyzing how they are thinking about the question, what are their math habits, how is their math vocabulary, and so on. I reach for the overarching skills and disciplines that will build math ability and confidence overall. We build general problem solving skills. We work on accuracy. I use simple ideas and illustrations to explain concepts in a way that is easy to understand and easy to remember. It starts by connecting with them at their level. Results don't lie. Please take a look at the reviews left for me here https://www.wyzant.com/Tutors/mathzap to see if I would be a good fit for you. You can message me here or there to confirm that is really me. I'd love to hear from you!

My goal is to connect with the student at THEIR level. We start by going over the basics of problem solving and work from there to foster independent thinking. I use varied approaches when the student is "stuck." I am friendly, patient and very persistent. I can assist with classwork and homework, and will tailor tutoring sessions to your needs. I will assign supplemental work to advance in the subject area as needed or desired. My ultimate goal - to work myself out of a job!

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a senior, math major at Marist College. I have a strong background in calculus and algebra. Scored a 700 on my math SAT section. Math is something that I am extremely passionate about and believe that STEM majors are the best ones to get you far in the world. I also have a strong background in cognitive thinking and leadership.
I enjoy working with students who want to learn and grow. I am very relaxed and don't just read from the book and give examples. I like to help the student with examples first and then put them to the test.

Experienced and Proactive Educator

Experienced and New York State Certified teacher. I have over 10 years experience teaching students in grades 1-12 and 5 years experience teaching adults. I also have extensive tutoring experience. I have an MA from Marist College as well as a BA from NYU. I have designed and taught SAT prep classes (verbal/writing portion) as well as developing curriculum integrating diverse domains of knowledge to create a broad, deep and flexible learning experience for students.
I believe that competence and confidence are BOTH important in learning. Students bring their own knowledge and learning styles to the process. It is the teachers job not only to adapt instructional style to best support the learner, but also to help the student understand his or her own learning style and needs.

I am not a teacher; I am an awakener!

I have taught in the education field since 1999. I am very fortunate to have had the privilege of working with a multitude of learners in a variety of environments. Early in my career I worked with adults that were mentally and physically challenged. I found this very rewarding and decided to pursue a degree in education, which lead me on my journey into the world of Special Education. I began working with children and young adolescents who had a variety of special needs and learning styles; I went on to specialized Autism and Special Education for K-12. After working with young children for many years I decided to branch out to work with young adolescents and adults pursuing their high school equivalency. Working with young adolescents and adults proved to be just as rewarding as working with small children. Helping someone achieve a life long dream of obtaining their high school diplom ... read more

My teaching style is show the child what they have to do and then have them do it with my help and then have them do it without my help.
I have been working with children both in the classroom and out to excel their knowledge of mathematics. I have been a tutor, a teacher aide, and have student taught at the high school and elementary level. I have both experience in one on one tutoring as well as group (5+). Group tutoring is always been something that I like due to the other children helping each other out. Student to student teaching is something that I believe highly in and have learned a lot about this with a program called AVID tutors.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have been tutoring since high school. I began as a tutor during summer school for students on track to graduate. Now I work as a peer tutor at SUNY Orange, tutoring a range of subjects in Math and Science primarily. I've had students recommended to me by former students, as well as former students approaching me for private tutoring if our schedules didn't fit for peer tutoring. I've run study sessions for different courses that I've taken, both for the entire class and for a small number of students.

Believe in yourself, and you are half-way there!

My teaching style depends on the student. I am comfortable with trying different study methods in order to figure out why my student is having trouble with a particular subject.
I have a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. I love being able to help students feel comfortable with the material they are studying. I have tutored numerous times throughout college, and would like to get back into tutoring students because I find it to be rewarding. As a student who went from living in Germany and being taught that there are many ways of getting the right answer, to moving to America where everything is taught in one way, I have learned to incorporate my tutoring skills to the need of each individual student. I try to figure out what works best for every individual and help them focus on their strength and improve their weaknesses.
